SIERRA LEONE

Michael Nabieu (20yrs) is a third-year student pursuing a BSc. Honours programme in Social Work at Njala University in Sierra Leone. Michael has a strong background in Leadership, Communication, Creative Writing, and Advocacy.

This niche has positioned him to participate in several seminars, symposiums, training and workshops at both national, continental, and global levels.

As a child and youth activist, Michael has participated in the formation, review and popularization of several national policies and acts, including the National Youth Policy of Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone Child Right Act of 2007, the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE)Policy of Sierra Leone, the Three Gender Act of Sierra Leone, etc.

As a young activist, he has been volunteering with community youth-led organisations and providing his expertise in lobbying with donor funders and national authorities in providing the basic needs of children and young people. Currently, Michael Nabieu is amongst the first cohort of young people selected to form the Youth Advisory Group (YAG) by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education(MBSSE).

The YAG supports the Ministry on critical decisions on the Central Government Flagship Programme – Free Quality Education.

They also serve as the liaison between the Ministry and its subjects and help in complementing the effort of the Ministry in the country. The Youth Advisory Group(YAG) was launched by His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone along with sixteen Ministers of Education across Africa.

Michael does not only believe in Self success, but He wants to see a situation where children and young people can live a happy and meaningful life by realizing their potential and how they too can help in the transformation process of Sierra Leone.
