BRIEF OF SUBMITTED SOLUTION
The COVID-19 pandemic led to a sharp increase in teenage pregnancies. When the girls and young woman could no longer go to school, they spend more time with boys and men, which has increased sexual behavior as well as risk of sexual violence and exploitation. In addition, the pandemic disrupted the access to comprehensive sexual health education and essential sexual and reproductive health services. Furthermore, due to COVID-19 pandemic, many families lost their entire businesses and with them their only stream of income which lead to many families forcing adolescent girls into exploitation, which often led to sexual violence, in order to ensure their economic survival. (World Vision Ghana)
The Street Children Empowerment Foundation wanted to address these problems by Fawohodie, a program which aims to make the lives of young mothers meaningful beyond motherhood through education and skills acquisition to make them more self- reliant. Through regular meetings, various activities and comprehensive educational and skills support we want to empower the adolescent mothers in James Town and Accra Central.
