THE GAMBIA

Aminata is a 2019 graduate from the University of The Gambia with a BSc degree in Development Studies, with over five years’ experience in civic leadership.

During her university studies, she consistently participated in activities, including holding Executive positions in her school’s organizations. She effectively engaged in Participatory Rural Appraisal exercises conducted in rural communities every academic year to facilitate students’ recognition of local knowledge in the development process of developing countries.

Currently, Aminata is the Program Officer of The Girls’ Agenda where she co coordinates, facilitates and organize trainings such as our Girls Empowerment Camps, Girls Leadership Academy for 450 girls, and School outreach programs under several grants such as AmplifyChange, Global Fund for Women, and United Nations offices, The Gambia.

These programs expose girls to learning and researching about their rights, gender-based violence, feminist leadership, menstrual health, and comprehensive sexuality education so they can become adequately empowered towards adopting positive behaviors regarding reproductive health and rights and Gender Based Violence prevention.

Aminata is of the belief that, for gender equality to be achieved sustainably through generations to come, there should be adequate investment in girls, with possible results in more freedom, equality and justice.
