INNOVATION MARKETPLACE
NIGERIA

BRIEF OF SUBMITTED SOLUTION
Muttex Foods is a start up based in Osun State Nigeria, with specific interest in the commercial mixed farming of Tilapia and silver carp fish species. Our mix farming approach allows us to maximize production cost and economics of scale, enabling us to raise fish that taste great and nutritionally superior at low-cost.
Nigeria is short of protein. And since some 40% of Nigerians get their protein intake primarily from fish, fish are crucial to solving this shortfall. Local capture fisheries, however, are in decline, and the supply crisis is compounded by Nigeria’s rising population, which is expected to double by 2050. At Muttex Foods, we practice sustainable fish farming in a natural pond setting utilizing the ice cold Natural borehole waters that flow from the earth into our ponds. Our workers live on the farm and tend to the fish multiple times per day. We do not over crowd our fish and feed them an all natural premium product. With constant care, our fish enjoy these cold clean waters and are never exposed to herbicides, pesticides or harmful chemicals found in many of our lakes, rivers and oceans. We have sourced Tilapia and silver carp species genetic mix that is one of the fastest growing and best feed converters in Africa; we also developed an innovative pond breeding technique for-low-cost-production.
Our fish feed is also fortified with vitamins, minerals, essential proteins and oils, notably Omega-3. This not only strengthens the immune-system of the fish, but also provides a more nutritious product for our customers.
